Observation Astronomy 1
This session aims to make participants understand the astronomical aspect for home, Planet Earth.
They will be introduced to the concepts of the poles and axis, the effect of tilt of the axis on Earth, directions, and grids on the earth, concept of timezones, how astronomy was a major tool in navigation in our history.All the above concepts shall be explained through various interesting demonstrations and activities.
Observation Astronomy 2
Moving beyond our Earth into the skies above us, we need to find location sin sky also, similar to Earth.
It aims to make participants learn about the concept of the grids in the sky, different coordinate systems being used to study position of stars and motion of stars in the sky.This enables to understand how skies are different from each place on Earth. Participants shall understand the Alt-Azimuthala nd RA-Deccoordinate system through a series of Demos and using simulation software’s.
Orientation of Sky and its objects
As an astronomer, before venturing out in the night sky, you need to understand the sky, get familiar with it, know its motion, do’s and don’t of DarkSite, choosing a dark site etc, concept of Light Pollution, famous dark sites of India and the world.
We will also go into understanding stars and its patterns,how stars help us in direction finding etc. In this session, participants will get to know about the basics of star gazing through a sky simulation software.Use this area to describe the image or provide supporting information.
Star Maps and Planisphere
Merely knowing the basics of stargazing can’t help to identify the constellations and bright stars,to learn it star charts are required.
This session aims to make participants learn about the importance of star chart sand how to use it in Astronomy. They will be learning about how night sky observations can be planned by using the star charts like planisphere.
Celestial Geometries and Events
Humans have always been a keen observer of patterns and the various geometries. This concept is also applicable while looking at the universe.
This session aims to make participants to learn about the various arrangements being formed in sky by celestial bodies like Eclipses,Conjunctions,Occultations, Moon phases etc. They will also be introduced to the various units being used in space to measure the distances.
Stellarium: A Sky Simulation Software
In the era of technology, we should make the best of it.
As being astronomers, everyone wants to look up in the sky and do stargazing but planning is always the first step for the effective sky gazing session and this session will help the participants to learn about the basics of planning the astronomical observations by using the Stellarium software. They will get to know how to use Stellarium and its various controls.
Celestial Optics -1: Telescopes and Binoculars
It is a series of two sessions to make participants learn about the most popular tool of an Astronomer i.e.Telescopes and Binoculars.
Celestial Optics -2: Handling Telescopes & Binoculars
participants will be made aware about the practical aspects of the observation through binoculars and telescopes through the observation of different objects present in the sky through demonstration each kind of Optical Tube, types of Mounts and their motion for both telescope & binoculars. This will also lead to you understand on choosing the right kind of Telescope or Binocular.
Daytime Astronomy: Sun and its Observation
This session aims to make participants learn about the only star of our solar system, its various features and various methods for the observation of Sun, Direct or Indirect.
The demonstration would be shown to witness the features of the Sun through special filters and solar telescopes. Participants are introduced to the concept of sundials–an ancient instrument based on Sun total time and how the sun can be used to find directions and circumference of earth.
