A total eclipse of the Moon will occur on Wednesday 31 January, 2018 from about 6pm to 9:30pm. The Moon will be plunged into darkness for 1 hour and 16 minutes (in Full Eclipse phase), in a deep total eclipse. A total lunar eclipse appears dark red, and is called the ‘Blood Moon’. A total lunar eclipse happens when the whole moon enters Earth’s shadow and can happen only when the sun, earth and the Moon are in a straight line and the moon is full. In India, the moon will already be in partial eclipse.
