Space India, in collaboration with the American Centre, hosted a thrilling and educational event titled Adventures of Water Rocketry at their office in Dwarka Sector 11 on 19th November. Despite the foggy weather and school closures across Delhi, students and their parents & teachers showed immense enthusiasm and made their way to the event, eager to participate in the hands-on learning experience. The office space was beautifully decorated to capture the excitement of space exploration, creating an immersive environment for everyone involved.
The workshop, led by an experienced and passionate astronomer, introduced students to the fascinating world of rocketry. Using water as a propellant, the participants built and launched their own water rockets, learning the essential principles of rocket science in an exciting and interactive manner. The session demonstrated how the basic mechanics of rocketry remain consistent whether launching a small water rocket or a massive spacecraft headed to Mars. Through this hands-on activity, students got to explore the scientific concepts behind rocket design and launch, experiencing the thrill of seeing their rockets take flight.
Participating schools included Prudence School, Imperial High School, Amity School and more. Despite the weather challenges, the students’ passion for space science was undeniable. They eagerly participated in the session, fascinated by the science behind the rockets and the process of constructing them.
In addition to the student sessions, a special workshop was organized for parents and teachers which was led by another astronomer. This segment focused on creating sky maps by using celestial coordinates to locate stars and other celestial objects in the night sky. Participants engaged in a hands-on activity with celestial globes, which allowed them to explore the stars and constellations like never before. The parents and teachers found the experience enriching and enjoyable, with many sharing that it gave them a chance to reconnect with their own student experiences while learning something new.
The Adventures of Water Rocketry workshop was more than just an educational event. It was a memorable journey into the world of space exploration and technology. The enthusiasm and curiosity sparked by the workshop were clear in the active participation of the students. As Space India and the American Centre continue to collaborate on such educational initiatives, they play an essential role in inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers, and space explorers. These efforts ensure that the spirit of discovery and innovation continues to thrive, fostering a future where young minds are equipped with the knowledge and excitement to push the boundaries of space exploration.
