On December 10, 2024, Beyond the Horizon: An Astronomical Journey at St. Martin’s Diocesan School, Delhi Cantt., opened a gateway to the cosmos, blending science, technology, and creativity into an unforgettable experience of Space India’s “(UITS) Universe In The School” program.
“This Program aids young minds bridge the gap between their imagination and reality by opening up a world of possibilities.” UITS encourages students to think beyond the classroom and discover the countless wonders of the cosmos by including astronomy and space sciences in the curriculum. Students refine their critical thinking, coordination, and problem-solving abilities through a hands-on learning approach, astronomy lab sessions, engaging workshops, and artistic projects. Fostering excitement for STEM, they explore the mysteries of Space and comprehend the science underlying celestial phenomena. In addition to encouraging students to have great aspirations, our curriculum equips them with the curiosity and knowledge necessary to turn their dreams into reality.
The astronomy showcase was a highlight of the event, offering more than 15 hands-on activities that brought space exploration to life. From the thrilling vortex cannon to the intricate 4-foot Moon surface model for crater-making, each exhibit captivated students and visitors alike. A working Pragyan rover model added a special touch, celebrating India’s advancements in space exploration.
The robotics showcase further enhanced the event’s appeal with groundbreaking projects such as an obstacle-avoiding car, IoT-enabled models, a smart parking system, a touchless bell, and a smart dustbin. These exhibits showcased the ingenuity of young minds, presenting futuristic solutions to real-world problems.
The astro fancy dress competition added a vibrant splash of creativity, as students embodied celestial bodies, astronauts, and iconic figures from astronomy’s rich history. Meanwhile, the interactive Space Lab tour featured exciting elements like a Moon surface for crater-making and an artistic light painting activity, sparking curiosity and wonder among attendees.
The school’s stunning space-themed decorations, complete with rockets, planets, and glowing astronaut lights, created an immersive cosmic atmosphere. A photo booth adorned with astronaut props became a popular attraction, providing attendees with a keepsake of their celestial journey.
This remarkable event was made possible by the dedication of over 70 volunteers who ensured every activity ran smoothly. Their tireless efforts, combined with the enthusiasm of students and participants, turned Beyond the Horizon into a resounding success.
