Students' scientific solar expedition to chase, study and admire the solar eclipses.
Heliodyssey provides opportunities to the public and especially students to travel to Total Solar Eclipse locations around the world and work with scientists and astronomers to participate in scientific observations and experiments. The students, selected via competitions, get full sponsorship.

About Heliodyssey
Heliodyssey is a pioneer national competition held by SPACE India during the notable annular and total solar eclipse with an aim to inculcate the interest of the student community in Science. It is the world’s first and largest student solar eclipse expedition covering eclipses nationally and internationally. Expedition team members are selected on the basis of merit in a selection process which comprises an online multiple-choice based exam called Space HeliOdyssey Test (SHOT). Selected expedition members are fully sponsored for the expedition, which comprises of astronomers, scientists, and media personnel. Heliodyssey not only trains the selected students to scientifically study the solar eclipse and publish records after observation & but also propagates scientific temperament & love for science in students.
The Heliodyssey project started in 2006 when the first students’ eclipse expedition went to Turkey to observe the Total Solar Eclipse that occurred on 26th March 2006. Since then, we have conducted six Heliodysseys, to Russia in 2008, India and China in 2009, the Indian Ocean in 2010, USA in 2017 (The Great American Eclipse), Oman in 2019 covering the Total and annular solar eclipses, crossing borders and mediums.
The past “Heliodyssions” have been selected by many league universities for admission.
Goals:
The larger goal of the Heliodyssey is to
Foster intelligent, analytic, rational and space-savvy global leaders of the space age.
inculcate scientific temper and spirit of inquiry and reform in the participants.
The expedition members are trained in various relevant skills to make them competent in handling their responsibility as a team member, which includes:
Conducting physical, meteorological and biological experiments.
Recording eclipse astrophotography and sketching.
Eye safely concerning solar eclipses and techniques safely observe the eclipse.
